I was reluctant to tackle this project because I new it would be time consuming but I’m glad I did it.
- First I had to collect about 25 old weather pallets. They needed to look old but not rotten.
- Then i needed to dismantle the pallets. All the pallets I found used twisted nails that do not pull out easily. I ended up using my sawzall with a metal cutting blade to cut the nails off between the boards.
- Sanding. Used a belt sander to take the roughness off the boards and to show the wood grain.
- Cut to width. All the boards needed to be cut straight and to the same width. I ended up having three different widths. 3″, 3.5″ and 5″.
- Find the studs. Mark out all the studs on the wall.
- Nail them to the wall. I used a Brad Nailer with a compressor. This way you don’t see the nails. Cut the boards to length as you see fit. I tried keep alike boards away from each other and the effect worked well.
